Letter from the Founder
To our Community,
I want to begin with gratitude. Thank you for holding me accountable, for speaking your truth, and for believing that this community is worth building, critiquing, and reshaping together.
In recent weeks, concerns and allegations have been raised about the integrity and practices of Kinki Collective. I do not wish to deflect or diminish the gravity of these allegations. As a foreigner living in a colony of the United States, it was important for me to reflect deeply on where the truth is found in these statements.
The Collective and I are interested in listening deeply, being accountable for what is true, growing through discomfort, and continuing to build a community that reflects our shared values. We stand for human rights, liberation in all forms, and bringing people together through community.
Over the past two weeks, our team has been talking with our members of the Collective, discussing points of growth, having difficult conversations, and making plans for how to be a stronger community-driven organization.
This feedback has shown me ways that I can do my part in building a more inclusive Collective—especially in a colonial context. We are making improvements to how we handle consent and conflict, how we center voices, distribute leadership, and welcome critique.
There are ways I’ve shown up imperfectly—through miscommunication, moving too quickly, or burnout—and I’ve been reflecting deeply on how to grow from that. I commit to doing better as a community organizer and a guest in this community.
To those who have felt hurt, excluded, or unseen—I hear you. If you are Queer, Trans, Afro-Caribbean, Fat, Neurodivergent, of Diverse Ability or a Survivor—and you do not feel safe, seen, or welcome in this space—please let us know how we can do better.
I want to be clear about the values that drive Kinki Collective:
✨ Inclusive community rooted in art, expression, healing, and kink
✨ Amplifying voices of Boricua, Queer, Trans, BIPOC, Survivors, and people with Diverse Abilities
✨ Promoting community and collaboration in the Puerto Rico kink scene
✨ Digital privacy, freedom, and security for alternative lifestyles
✨ If these ever stop driving Kinki, I’ll unplug our neon pink signs and close it all down myself
Our team has already begun planning and implementing changes based on collective feedback:
✨ We are forming dedicated roles for consent response, conflict resolution, membership and vetting, with clear accountability
✨ We are expanding leadership to more closely reflect the community we serve
✨ We are improving bilingual access, accessibility and inclusion
✨ We are introducing internal education and event themes around power dynamics, allyship, and colonialism
✨ We are inviting more feedback, especially from those who feel unseen, harmed, or unheard
This work is not performative. It is personal and life-long.
💋 Thank you to every single person who has helped build this rebellious little project with me.
💋 Thank you to those who have challenged me to grow.
💋 Thank you to those still deciding if this space is for you. I am listening.
With love, community, and respect,
Helix
